Poem about Abraham

07.20.09

Here’s a poem I wrote last year about Abraham:

Cleaning messy hands and face
On a lazy summer day
Little bare feet in the grass
Oh how fast these days will pass

Someday soon they’ll seem so distant
His sweet toddler hugs and kisses
When, so innocent and open,
He would run to me to hold him

And Mommy could fix everything
And simple things delighted him—
Blowing bubbles in the yard,
Playing choo-choo trains and cars

Then I’ll wish I’d spent more time;
Set all of my tasks aside
To focus on those little things
And savor for my memory

On what was once a daily chore,
And sometimes had seemed a bore
Blowing bubbles in the yard
Playing choo-choo trains and cars

Cleaning messy hands and face
On this lazy summer day
Little bare feet in the grass
Oh how fast these days will pass…
